These days it feels like everyone is trying to sell me something.
Ads are everywhere. Influencers are linking everything and half the products don’t even seem rational. (I’m looking at you, overly-specific kitchen gadgets.)
That being said – every once in a while, I find something that genuinely solves a problem I didn’t know had a solution.
Waterproof Cloth Shower Curtains
Did you know these existed?? I didn’t for too long.
For years I used those thin plastic liners that got disgusting, were impossible to clean, but felt wasteful to throw away.
They’re attractive, they go in the washing machine, and if your cat likes to chew plastic like mine does, they won’t end up full of tiny teeth holes.
Here is an example from Home Depot.
A Laundry Basket with a Removable Lining
You’re going to notice a theme here: if it can’t go in the washing machine, I don’t want it.

If your laundry basket lives out in the open, it might as well look nice. Those plastic hampers look like trash cans, and most “cute” ones are wrapped in fabric you can’t actually remove or wash.
You can get a wicker or coiled rope basket with a removable cloth laundry bag inside: boom.
Aesthetic and functional!
Mine is similar to this one from Target.
A Self-Cleaning Litter Box
I don’t know who needs to hear this – but this is legitimately life changing.
I have two cats. One is a Maine Coon who takes grown-man dumps. Missing one day of scooping? It hits you like a bus when you walk in the house.
I finally invested in a self-cleaning litter box. It:
- Cleans itself after every use
- Tracks my cats’ weight
- Monitors bathroom habits for health
Even my skittish cat adjusted immediately.
One warning: this is a “buy nice or buy twice” situation. The cheaper automatic boxes will absolutely crap out on you (pun intended). It’s worth the splurge.
I got the black one, but I wish I had gotten the green!
Furniture That Doubles as Storage
We live in a smaller space, so everything has to earn its keep.
Our coffee table opens up and holds all of Echo’s craft supplies.
Our bed frame has three large drawers on each side so we don’t need a dresser.
When you buy furniture with storage, go solid wood if you can. The weight of what you store inside adds up fast, and laminate or cheap materials won’t survive a move.
This looks similar to my coffee table.
Door Pinch Guards
You can get foam ones, or we use stuffed animals that wrap their arms around the handles. My daughter loves them.
They prevent smashed fingers AND keep doors from slamming when windows are open.
This bear goes on the hinge.
These cute little stoppers go on the door itself.
These were just a few things in my home that solved real problems for me! Let me know if you’ll consider any of these ideas in your home! 🙂
